Support for semi-homogeneous data collection
Funded July 2022
Submitted by Andrew Talal
Project Team
Description
From an ongoing project that is designed to identify social determinants of health utilizing data obtained from New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), we noted a need to harmonize data collected using different survey instruments (medical intake and annual updates) across different clinics, different form completers, and across multiple years. A similar need to harmonize data arise in other environments in social sciences, such as in linguistics. One team member’s work has specifically applied to survey instruments used to collect data on Cameroonian languages.
In February 2022, the team submitted an application to NSF to build a platform to build survey instruments, to harmonize data collected on different versions of the instruments, and to enable easy analysis of data collected using evolving versions of the instrument. The goal would be to have a platform that could easily be utilized broadly within the social sciences. The Blue Sky funding will enable us to build out a prototype strengthening our proposal when resubmitted.
